Power PICC versus Solo Power PICC
Power PICC line
The Power PICC lines are distinct in that they have a clamp on them, which prevents blood reflux. Power PICC lines must be flushed and heparin locked at least every 24 hours when not in use.
Solo Power PICC
Solo Power PICCs have a blue bulb-shaped valve. This valve prevents blood from flowing out of the PICC and prevents air from flowing into the PICC (Aims Vascular Access, 2021). No clamp is required due to the valve. While a weekly saline flush is still needed to maintain the line patency, no heparin is required.

Nurse Tip: Before providing caregiver education on PICC lines, ensure which type of PICC line the patient has. Always reference hospital policy if you have any questions.
